Being a group leader

A group leader is simply a participant who helps the group feel included, checks that people have arrived, and takes a little initiative when needed. Same signup as everyone else. You just get a bit more info about the group the day before, and the others know who to ask. Usually there are only 1–2 leaders per hangout.

What you do

Help everyone feel included

Say hi, break the ice, and make sure no one is left out. A warm welcome sets the tone for the whole hangout.

Check people have arrived

Keep a light eye on who's there at the meeting point so the group can get going together.

Take a little initiative

Suggest where to go first or what to do next when the group needs a nudge. Nothing formal, just help things flow.

What you get

  • A bit more info about your group the day before
  • City perks and a dedicated group-leader community
  • Occasional special events just for leaders

Being a group leader is completely voluntary and unpaid. It's just a nice way to help your hangout go well.

Good to know

You're not organizing the event or responsible for anyone. You're just a friendly first point of contact. If you can make it, it really helps to show up. And if something comes up and you can't, just let us know in the chat so we can tell your group in time.
